RC electric helicopters

RC electric helicopters are the coolest thing I have ever seen.  I remember when I saw my first helicopter flying in the air and I thought that it was the most fantastic invention ever.  It could go at intense speeds as well as hover like a humming bird over a flower.

Seeing my first electric helicopter brought me back to that moment.  I knew that I definitely had to have it.  And now I can attest that it is the most fun that you can have in an open field.

RC model helicopter

• To install a new battery you will need to remove the body from the RC model helicopter to access the internal components.
• The helicopter will have either a foam or plastic body which will have to be cut to remove it.
• The foam body will have a vertical seam which can be cut open with either a hobby or utility knife.
• The plastic body can be cut open either at the horizontal seam at the bottom or by cutting it vertically front to back.
• Once the body is removed you will find the battery near the front of the helicopter it is flat and silver, approximately 2″x 1.5″ in size.
• There will be two wires connecting the battery to the main circuit board, these will need to be un-soldered from the battery.
• With these wires removed the battery can be taken out of the helicopter, it is held in with a few pieces of clear tape that can be cut or peeled off.
• The replacement battery can be held in with any kind of tape.
• When soldering the new battery the power wires please ensure that the red wire is connected to the battery terminal labeled with the “+” and the black wire is to the terminal labeled with a “-”. Connecting this backwards will cause damage to the battery and circuit board. Be careful to not short out the two battery terminals as it will damage the battery and may cause fire.
• You will notice that the original battery also had a small circuit board connected to it, this is to prevent an overdischarge on the battery. It is not necessary on the new battery however it can be soldered and applied to the new replacement battery to help prevent damage.
• Once the battery is in place the body can be re-installed using scotch tape or glue

RC Airplane

Joining a remote control aircraft club is a great way to dive into your hobby. Model  Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC) regulates it’s members of clubs to give you the best access to current rc informaton, events, flying fields, etc for both RC Airplane and RC Helicopter model flyers. They also provide links to associated rc aircraft organizations the world over.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert RC Hobby Aircraft hobbier, you will find a RC model club near you.

On this page, in the right hand column section “Recommended Sites”, I have included a link to MAAC website’s list of Clubs.

Enjoy your hobby!

RC model helicopter

I work at a day camp for kids and I recently purchased an RC model helicopter for the children to play around with and they love it.  It’s a really great feeling to see their little eyes light up when they hold the controller in their hands make those models fly up into the air.

Now a few of these kids want to be pilots and they spend their art time drawing up helicopters and airplanes.  They have dreams thanks to these model choppers and planes.

Here is a video of a beginner making use of the RC Helicopter Training Kit, in learning to hoover an RC Wasp V2 Helicopter (simulator included). You can see, as demonstrated, the importance of using the training kit in gradually learning to make the remote control helicopter lift-off, hoover and land. It is a very inexpensive way to prevent costly accidents. However, please remember the importance of first practicing on an RC Flight Simulator to learn the feel of the controls, before attempting your maiden flight.

Before attempting to fly your remote control helicopter, it would be a wise investment of time to get it right, using an rc flight simulator first. It will protect your prime investment, the rc helicopter model itself. Here are some additional pointers to follow, when learning to fly using a simulator (sim), that we have found from the pros:  Read the rest of this entry »

RC Flight SimulatorI found this great article, written by Andre McFayden, that I thought my customers would like to see. The principles apply both to flying RC airplanes and RC helicopters.

RC airplane flying is a fun and challenging hobby. The time and expense of learning to fly remote control airplanes has been greatly reduced in recent years. RC flight simulators have been one reason for this. These are programs that run on your home pc, allowing you to practice “virtual” flight. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your rc flight simulator (”sim”).
